Introduction
Development Reading is one of the major subjects of
the 3rd year college
student taking education course during 1st semester.
Development reading is a process of cultivating and
improving the individual potentialities of understanding, development of
various skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, literary appreciation and
other study skills necessary for reading skills that the effective and
competent teacher must have.
As student understanding this course are expected from
different types of works, outputs as the products of our potentialities and
skills that being developed throughout the course. These outputs will be the
evidences of our development in reading and other relative skills as well
the effectiveness of the teaching learning process inside the classroom.
In this e-portfolio of our group we will features a
various form of our works as photograph, illustration, documentation,
organizer, song, poem and other else. And also the suit case of our experiences
and practices in putting into action the different theories behind this
subject.
We hope you would like each of our masterpiece
prepared not only as compliance for this subject. But also to share to you the
product of the potentials and skills of each in our group.

First Week (June 21 2012)
Correct pronuonciatiation of the word
“preface”
Board work (She asked
volunteers to write their own meaning of “Reading” on the board)
Our instructor elaborated each meaning
given by the students.
One of the meanings
that were given / written on the board the one that Angeliza wrote caught the
attention of Ma'am Jam.
“Mother of all study
skills”
According to Ma'am jam. “Reading
involves mental processes and there are also values being derived from there
and one of these is the “vicarious” learning through experience.
After discussing the meanings of
reading the next topics that were discuss is the characteristics of Reading
Process. Ma'am jam explained toughly every characteristic.
Ma'am Jam gave same
reminders about grammar and mentioned about word parallelism.
She also shared to us about (an
English word that we used here in the Philippines but with different meaning to
other countries. For example Salvage the meaning of this word in the
Philippines is to throw the killed body but in the Americans it means salvation
/ to save.
For the remaining minutes of the
meeting Ma'am Jam asked for volunteers to share their answers about the
assignment which is what do you usually read? And Why?
Some of the students actively
participated, some answered about fiction, fairytales, romance and others.
1st Activity
(“Getting to know
each other”)
“Tell me who you friends are and I will tell
you who you are.” It connotes the meaning of being alike to each other of a
friend. Sometimes we have wrong assumptions about a person specifically with
the person who is belong in a bad companion. But it doesn’t mean that all of
his/her qualities and attitudes are alike to / her companion or friends.
Attitudes and characteristics of a person were depends on the person on how he
/ she be who he/she is.
“Getting to know each other” is an
activity to deeply our friends and classmates. It provides information
regarding the favorite place, hobbies,
birth place, best friends, unforgettable place, embarrassing moment and others.
It also gives us time to talk about ourselves because even though we are
classmates for almost two years we don't have times to talk about our personal
life.
We are very mush thankful that we have
this getting to know each other activity. It gives us opportunity to know well
our classmates. We very much thankful for this wonderful activity because of
this we got chance to talk about ourselves personally and seriously.
2st Activity
(“Singing Bee”)
Singing
is a form of hobby, talent, entertainment and therapy. All of us are able to
sing but not all of us can sing well. Singing is our way to relieve us from
pain or stress. It also uses to serenade our love ones. It is also a way of
showing our feelings to others.
Singing our national anthems as a
Filipino is a way of giving respect to our flag and a way of showing our
sincerity and love to the independence in our country. Just like singing our
national anthem, it is also needed to sing our University Hymn as a student to
shows also the love / respect to our University. It is also a way of giving
respect to our school or University.
Seminar Workshop
(Reflection: k-12
Implementation)
July 7-14, 2012
K to 12 is the latest attempt of the
government to improve the quality of education in the country. K to 12 is the
flagship initiative basic Education Reform Program of the DEPED entitled “Go
Education”. Wherein, it introduces kinder garden and Junior & Senior High
School in the Philippines Education System. With the goal of enhancing the
current curriculum by decongesting it and aligning it with the international
practice.
And under the k to 12 is MTB MLE on
Mother Tongue based multilingual efficiency. As part of enhancing the
curriculum the Mother tongue language will be the medium of teaching in all
subjects of Grade 1 pupils except with Filipino and English Subject. While the
senior high school Grade 11-12 has already Social Science and Philosophy
Subject. After taking the Senior High school there are two equal options to
choose. First, all graduates should be ready to go to college if and when they
wish. Second, all graduates will be ready to earn a livelihood as employee or
entrepreneurs with their own business. This particular program that to do like
most because those bright yet poor student, can have a chance to be successful
in the future escape poverty even they not get professional.
K to 12 is considered as a hot
commodity one a days where all the stakeholders in Philippines Education must
be participate and support especially the business sector who capable to keep
to address the needs of the Country's Basic Education System . And most
especially we as the citizen of this country parents, student, workers,
teachers must do our part to be responsible citizen.
(MTB – MLE Demo Teaching)
Change is unenviable.
Teaching focuses more
on a vocation rather than profession. In a way that its main goal is to
transformed every individual into a better citizen of the society, no to be
liability. That's why it is a big challenge in each and every one of us, as a
future teacher to accept these kinds of responsibilities is starting from this
moment.
Based in our
observation with regards to the MTB-MLE program, teaching and learning process
become more interactive in a sense that, pupils can relate themselves on what
is being taught through the use of their own dialects (L1). They become aware
about the kind of environment they're living. They can easily express their
thoughts and feelings without being ashamed wherein they can understand more
the lesson being taught. Their minds think critically that's why they can
easily catch up what was being meant by the teacher. Just like what was done by
the teacher and selected Grade 1 pupils of Cagaycay Elementary Scholl. It is
fascinating to observe that kind of a very interactive environment between
teacher and pupils. With just a few months. After the opening of classes having
been used the Mother-tongue based.
MTB-MLE provides a
big help to the teachers in dealing with the pupils. But there are also
circumstances that they should face off. One of these is the coming in and out
of the complaints of those parents with regards to the new curriculum. And at
the same is on how they can handle every pupil’s processing different
personalities and environments where they had grown up. It is also a big
challenge dealing with these things.
As a teacher, we have
to be ready on every circumstances or struggles we are to be facing with.
Because that is part of the reality taking these profession. Teacher becomes
the greatest artist. Thinking that you could do everything, go with the flow
without any hesitation, that's life. If ,there is a change, we are also expecting/hoping
for its possible outcomes definitely an improvement on every individual.
(K to 12 Implementation (Demo
teaching))
The main focused of the second day
Seminar Workshop in k-12 implementation was the mother tongue based as a medium
of instruction in teaching grade 1 pupil in all subject areas. The demonstrator
shows some possible ways of using (L1) in teaching match subject. After we
witnessed the sample demonstration we could say that this is a very challenging
and tasky in the part of the teacher. While for among pupils this is new for
them and challenging too.
In using (L1) in teaching math subject
many strategies to be applied in order to achieve the target objectives. But
the competency of the teachers is one of the big factors for effective learning
process. And since the subject is Math, there are more practices to be
mastered. Math subject is full of symbols sign, terminologies, figures and
problem statement. A critical mind and skills are needed just to deliver well
the instruction by using (l1) to the pupils. And vice-versa for the respond of
the pupil.
Not opposing for the implementation of
mother tongue in teaching especially with math subject. Let us face the truth
that this is new to us, both pupils and teacher will be encountering,
difficulties and using tagalong or English language is inevitable to use in
teaching this subject.

Third Week (July 16,
2012)
We checked the remaining practice in
our handouts which is the practice number 3 of the topic connotation and
denotation. After checking it Ma'am Jam recorded our score as part of the
activity. The highest score was 14 out of 15 items.
Ma'am Jam makes an introductory
discussion about the 2 types of Reading, Silent Reading and Oral Rea ding. She
defined first some words that are important that we may encounter during the
discussion. Some of the words were pronunciation, enunciation, lexicon, and
accent. Knowing the meaning of these works would help us to understand well the
lesson. We, the students were given also the chance to express our ideas in
defining those words.
She also enumerated the different tips
on how to read orally. She was able to explain it to us very well, so we really
understand how important it is to follow in order to have/deliver good reading.
During the discussion Ma'am Jam was
very generous in giving/sharing what she knows especially about English words.
She is enriching our vocabularies at the same time during our discussion. Some
of those words were hooves in British while in America it is a vacuum
fanctabydocy (British) meaning in America is awesome or amazing. She also
encouraged us to watch foreign movies to enrich more our English vocabularies.
In remaining five minutes, Ma'am Jam
gave us examples of Rebus, a word play; we really enjoyed the example that was
given to us by Ma'am Jam. According to her children really enjoy those word
plays, so we better browse internet to have some examples or activities that we
may use when we are in teaching profession especially for elementary pupils.

Fourth Week (July 8,
2012)
We had our second quiz, a 20 item quiz.
There were three students who are exempted in this second quiz because they got
effect score in the first quiz. They are Jaymar Parma, Christine Nollan and
Janet Menes. We checked our papers right after the quiz. Many students got a
perfect score this time around. But according to Ma'am jam there is no more
exemption award (for the next quiz/ third quiz.) For those who got perfect
score this time for the third quiz. Their reward was a round of applause from
the class.
After the quiz Ma'am Jam discussed
about Intensive Reading and Extensive Reading. She asked the students about
their ideas about the two. Some of the students share their ideas. Men they
gave examples of what kind of reading materials that uses intensive reading and
extensive reading.
Ma'am Jam gave as a spelling test only
in letter a. It was a 10 items test with a bunos question. According to her she
wants to test our vocabulary. She also said that those words were commonlly
misspelled by children.
After the spelling test ma'am Jam
stated to discuss the connotation and denotation. She explained the difference
between the two and she also asked for the ideas of her students. We also
started to read the selections about connotation and denotation then we
answered the following questions. We had only finished from practice No.1 up to
practice No. 3.

Taare Zameen Par
(Every Child is Special)
Finally, I got done watching the most talked about Bollywood movie of 2007- Taare Zameen Par. Most of the websites and blogs have even finished reviewing it…and mine comes very late. But that’s all right, because not many people will agree with what I’ve got to say next.
When the movie started, I really felt as if I can finally expect something good from a mainstream Bollywood movie. Darsheel Safary, as Ishaan, captivated me right from the first scene, where he’s shown playing with fish in a dirty puddle of water, totally oblivious to his surroundings. I really enjoyed the colorful artwork that was shown during the opening credits. The first half of the movie was amazing. Ishaan’s struggle with the orthodox educational system is given full justice. I was telling myself, ” Aamir Khan as a director, is very good!”. Perhaps I shouldn’t have let that thought enter my mind.
The movie starts going downhill as soon as Aamir Khan enters the classroom, dressed like a clown. What exactly was the point of having that scene in the movie? All I want is a realistic movie. Is that too much from him? Mr. Perfectionist? This scene is followed by a trip to a school for special children. Then comes the title song “Taare Zameen Par”, interspersed with a lot of tear jerking scenes. Between all this, Aamir Khan, the honorary arts teacher, suddenly realizes that he’s almost forgotten about Ishaan. So off he goes to Ishaan’s house to talk to his parents and make them understand that Ishaan is dyslexic.
After managing to do that, he single handedly makes all the other teachers and the principal understand about Ishaan’s problem. Wait! We’re not done yet. Next, he teaches Ishaan how to read and write (Ishaan’s hand writing improves trememdously!). He teaches Ishaan to become “normal” in that the young boy is shown buttoning up his shirt, tying his shoe laces and his tie and combing his hair. Wasn’t Aamir Khan fighting against the set order and the “normal” way of doing things in the first place? What an irony!
A kid whose hand writing is almost indecipherable, somehow, miraculously improves it to an unbelievable extent…all because of the encouragement and the love that he receives from a teacher. Now I understand why people accuse Aamir Khan of being a “scene stealer”. The movie became just about him after he entered the scene. The boy, Darsheel Zafary, is reduced to a toy, who is used to show off Aamir’s greatness.
And let me not even talk about the Arts Show that is organized towards the end. No prizes for guessing who wins it!
If you’re still reading this review, then I’m sure that you must be abusing me by now. I’m not bashing this movie because I hate Aamir Khan or because I hate Bollywood. I really wanted to like this movie and I really did, until Aamir entered the scene and reduced it to a tear jerker. Where is the subtlety?
This movie is worth a watch only because of Darsheel Zafary’s amazing acting and the beautiful artwork in the opening scene. The background score was overdone. Shankar Mahadevan needs to hire someone else to sing some of his songs. He’s becoming really boring and predictable. And Aamir…it’s better if you stay behind the curtains.
REFLECTION
(DEVELOPMENTAL READING)
(Midterm)
Education is a
life-long process, it involves learning. As long as we are living there is also
a continuous learning, may it be from our experiences, simple or huge. Life
becomes useless if we can’t get the gist of it. If there is a process, expect
for a change. But be sure that it is for good, adding positive outlook and
subtracting pessimistic attitudes.
To be a full grown man, we should know first the meaning of life or simply, why
do we exist. Then to a have a better understanding of it, we should also
undergo stages before we can get the answer on our questions.
Taking the right path has do’s and don’ts for us to be guided and be aware on
what to do, especially in decision-making. Do not be too much focused on the
problems that comes instead, bear in mind that God always have a purpose why He
permits it to happened. There are also standard that we should meet before we
can say that we are now a well-developed individual. We have to overcome every
challenges and the best thing is, asked for the guidance of God to be within us
so that we can also be a great warrior. We can be brave enough in facing
hardships in defeating the game of life.
In connection with this, on the topic we had discussed on our subject
“developmental reading,” before we tackled everything, we first then study/know
the meaning of reading and its characteristics. It has also stages before
coming up into a good reader. Reading is very much beneficial on our existence.
Through reading we can be well-informed of every happening around; it can also
be a worthwhile form of recreation, a source of inspiration and a form of
therapy. And on understanding every words do not focused only on its literal
meaning because sometimes it’s on the other way around. There are tips that can
help us improved our skills in reading and of course things to be avoided are
also stated. If we can do our best to follow this, then expect for the better
outcome as a reader. And also asked for the guidance of our teacher, it can
helps a lot.
“Having someone like you in my life gives me so
many reasons; to smile, to be thankful, to be proud and say…I’VE GOT THE SWEETEST ANGEL IN THE WHOLE
WORLD”
Layca C. Paladan
Why
we learned, or why we have to learn and what’s the purpose of learning? That’s
the question I made into myself, maybe some would say that answer for that
question is quite obvious. We learned , simply because there is the one who
teaches us, who teacher everything we wanted to learn and everything we didn't know, and we called them as teachers, professors, instructors, and mentors, but
not totally we learned all from them, we can also learned from other people we
encountered and we also learned from our experience. Open- mindedness and
willingness are the reason and the best way why we learned, and we have to
learn for the sake of other and for ourselves as well, as part of our chosen
profession we should be more aware about those things we are about to perceived
from our teacher.
We
learned because we need it, we learned anywhere we are, and in many ways, we
learned through listening, viewing, and reading and also through writing, but
before we come into it, there are things that we considered first. Like what
our teacher in Education 8 (Developmental Reading) discussed about how to read
and the things that are needed in reading. This would be more suitable in our
chosen field since we are about to teach for the coming years, so we should
develop more our reading skills. Through reading we can able to learn, but for
us to say that we are now competent in reading, and we should also practice
reading with comprehension so we can totally understand the true meaning and
message of the things we read, but there are things to considered when it comes
to proper reading, first is we need focus while reading second make sure that
it fits to our time and it catches our interest in selecting a material, we all
know that we can read anywhere we are, but the best time for reading is when it
was suited to our time nd purpose, and the availability of the materials are
also considered when reading. In reading, it also caters the 3 domains in
learning which are cognitive or the knowledge skills, we used it when we read
the selection with understanding the texts or the message where the author want
to express to the readers and they totally understand the meaning of it,
secondly would be the psycho motor or the bodily kinaesthetic of an individual,
we also apply it reading if we are about to imitate those actions on the story
we depends on the story we are about to read. Those things that our teacher
discussed about reading are very much useful and effective and applicable to
our chosen field.
Effective
reading makes us more competitive, and as prospective teachers we should bear
into our minds that reading is important, not only as future teachers but also
as an individual as well, so we should keep on reading for us to be called as
competitive teacher someday, we should not hesitate to read.
MA. ANN TONETTE BOCERON
What
is Developmental Reading? Developmental Reading is a curriculum for School that
enhances the students’ ability and capacity to read, listen, write and speak.
It is also a reading activity under a comprehensive reading program which
consists of several stage. What is Reading? Reading is a subtle and complex
process that involves sensation, perception, comprehension, application and
integration. It is a magic key to the world of enlightened and enjoyment,
Reading also is an active dialogue between the author and readers, practice of
knowing and understanding the meaning of printed words or written symbols and
putting and getting meaning from/into printed page. The efficient reader is
ready to evaluate, challenge and criticize reading materials.
What
is the role of teacher and student in the teaching – learning process? Teacher
is one of important figure in the classroom. He / she is the source of
knowledge and information. The teacher task requires that he possesses a wide
variety of positive personality traits and professional qualities. Students /
pupils are the learners. These two are the essential element of learning
teaching process.
In
the first half of this semester in Education 8 (Developmental Reading) is very
interesting and knowledgeable, Interesting because it helps to improve our
knowledge and skills and knowledgeable because it adds to our ideas, techniques
and strategies that we will use in teaching pupils. In this semester I have
gained more strategies, methodologies and techniques, what correct English
grammar should be, how to correct spelling, differences between British and
American English Language variety of books that are available inside and
outside the school and reading definition, stages, standard, tips, purpose that
will guide us in the proper reading way. This half of the semester gave way to
reading but because of the goal of our teachers to our knowledge and
importations, she shared some of his knowledge in grammar, spelling, language
and other skills in teaching. In grammar they gave a techniques how to
construct correct grammar, in language, she differentiate the difference
between the British and American English Language (example: the British word is
Hoover and American words is vacuum) another (example: the British word is
Programmed and the American word is Program: the skills in the form of giving
an activity that test the capability of the student to do their roles as
student like making a blog that serves as the portfolio of every group,
documentation picture in the seminar workshop activities, given the test to
know if all of us learn from the lesson and also a making a reflection, these
measure if well have additional knowledge that we will gain in this subject.
This different topic or additional importations will help us to guide our ideas
in teaching pupils someday. This half semester rescue to reading, the proper
reading techniques and how will apply in teaching the pupils and also to serve
as knowledge in proper speaking in front of the public. It is very important
for us to enhance our skills and lessen our necessity in grammar, spelling, low
confidence, pronunciation and enunciation of words.
All
of these strategies and techniques will depend upon the teacher. Like my
teacher in Education 8, if I will describe my professor / teacher in Education
8 she serves a tool for us to learn. She is knowledgeable, cheerful,
considerate, dedicated, competitive, energetic and professional. Every time
that she has a lesson, she delivers it properly. This teacher is no other than
Ms. Julie Amara J. Mostoles. Because of her cheerfulness, all of us encouraged
to listen and participate in the lesson, because of her considerable attitude
all of us can pass the subject, because of her strategies and techniques in teaching
all of us enjoyed and payed attention to the lesson, because she is
professional teacher all of us are expected to gain knowledge and also will be
a good teacher someday. These characteristics are very important for the
teacher to be called an efficient and effective teacher. The learning of the
student is depend on the teacher’s quality because of this teachers quality to
teach all of us encourage to listen, study, explore and all of us will achieve
our goals in life.
JAYMAR BOBIS PARMA
Each
subject is said to be important in our chosen filed since we are taken up
Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED3-C). All the things we had learned from
the different subjects in the past will be imparted / used when we are already
in teaching.
Education
8 with a course description of Developmental Reading 1” is one of the major
subject that will be flourished my understanding and learning when it comes to
reading. Through this, it guides me how to select a material that is
appropriate to the level or stages of every individual whom they can develop
effectively their knowledge and skills. For example in Elementary, you must
choose or select materials where the interest and creativity would be able to
show / displayed by them (pupils). Just like what wood ward said book is the
instrument for perpetuating body of knowledge painfully and slowly accumulated
through the eyes of man. Next to that which is really catch me, is the
differences between the types of reading in terms of proper projections and the
standards, True enough that in order to become a good leader, you should become
first a good follower. A teacher is a good example for
pupils / student. So very helpful for us that we know the distraction between
the oral and silent reading so that we can practice it in a four corners of room
or even outside of the room.
But then, the things that
must important is to guide the pupils / student when it comes to reading
especially if more connotative words that had been printed on the book and
especially if you will use a speed rate of reading. Just what the other said,
it is better is a reader understand what he / she read about.
BERNABI RUBI
It
seems obvious to say that “there is no activity that comes with the label
‘teaching’ attached to it is the way that some mountains come topped with snow
and some trees bear fruit. Without resorting to empirical observations it is
reasonable to say that whenever a situation is designated “teaching”, the acts
of explaining, describing, stating, defining, concluding, justifying, weighing
and assessing of evidences for against a given problem, questioning, giving
reasons, evaluating, praising, reprimanding, giving pieces of advice to
students, proving, interpreting, amplifying and other related acts are present.
Developmental
reading 1 is primarily deals with the sharpening of the teachers reading
proficiency in preparation for the introduction to the nature of reading
process. It is more on how the teacher improves their skills in order to teach
properly the process of reading especially in elementary pupils. When we say
reading it is seemingly a simple word although it is filled with complexity.
According to Lapp and Flood it fall under two categories: reading as a decoding
process and reading for meaning. Reading is one of the macro skills that are
very important in developing the potentials of the individual. It helps them to
reach their goals in life in their own way.
In
almost 24 hours of our class session in Educ 8 this midterm much information
and knowledge sink in to my brain. This is one of our major subject as a
education student wherein it enhance our reading skills and gives us knowledge
on the components of the reading process. It also make us competent teacher in
a way that it makess us more aware on how to use properly the words in a
sentenc like its grammar, accent, inflection, lexicon pronunciation,
enunciation, syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology and others that is
necessary in reading process. It is also one of my favorite subjects this
semester because it does not only tackle about the scope of its subject but
also it can integrate to other subject like Literature ang English. It awakened
my mind the different meanings of reading, its characteristics, developmental
stages , importance and basis in selecting reading materials. I also learned
how the teaching of oral reading effective, how to lessen tension in oral
reading, how to project oneself in proper reading stance and the standards for
classroom oral reading.
I
really admire the way our teacher deliver and present her lesson. She makes us
more knowledgeable about the lesson in every discussion.I can say that she is a
good role model as a teacher that does not only based on the traditional way of
teaching rather she make use of the authentic method of teaching wherein there
is an interaction between the students and the teacher. She also serves as a
facilitator and resource provider that recommends and points the way to useful
resources and ask thought-provoking questions and provide opportunities for us
to construct and be accountable for our own learning. Our
teacher
is not a selfish person in a sense that all the information that she can
provide for us us she gave it with whole-hearted.She makes us well-informed
about the subject matter and gives more vocabulary words that is very needed in
our profession. At first glance I thought she was so strict but in the
preceeding meetings it changed. My perception to her is that she is a teacher
having a wide patience, k
ind
and approachable teacher.
I
observe in this subject developmental reading 1 that almost all of us were
studying about the lesson because everytime we have a quiz almost all of us got
a high score. Every one of us enjoy this subject because of the rebus that our
teacher introduced in every discussion to prevent us from boredom. It capture
our attention and able us to think deeply what really the meaning of the
symbols.I know in myself that I am not very good in this subject but I do and
try my very best to understand well every lesson that our teacher discussed.
I am
hoping that this subject will enhance our talent and skills in reading process.
I am very much thankful that our techer gave her best in order for us to learn.
I am looking forward for more unique and amazing techniques in discussing a
lesson.I promise that I will study hard in the preceeding meeting in order to
acquire knowledge and get a high grades not only in this subject but also to my
other subjects.
Thank
you to my teacher for the opportunity to be one your student.
Most
of all thank you to God for giving me the wisdom ang strenght in everyday life.

Just Hold Me
by Jeanelle
Not many have ever known
and if I tell - who would believe?
There's nothing I can call my own
not even the things I have achieved.
It's always better that way
All that is aching inside
It's better for it to stay -
covered up with hurt's pride.
All in good time
I will open the gate
of this little heart of mine
in a moment of fate.
For a soul that's been torn and
a heart controlled by other
there's not much you can do
But to hold me in your arms -
my dearest Mother.
Winter snow is falling
down
Children laughing all
around
Lights are turning on
Like a fairy tale come true
Sittin' by the fire we made
Sittin' by the fire we made
You're the answer when
I prayed I would find
someone
And, baby, I found you
And all I want is to hold you forever
And all I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more
everyday
You saved my heart from being
broken apart
You gave your love away and
I'm thankful
everyday, for the gift
Watching as you softly sleep
Watching as you softly sleep
What I'd give if I could
keep
Just this moment If only
time stood still
But the colors fade away
But the colors fade away
And the years will make us
gray
But, baby, in my eyes
You'll still be beautiful
And all I want is to hold you forever
And all I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more
everyday
You saved my heart from
being broken apart
You gave your love away
and
I'm thankful everyday, for
the gift
And all I want is to hold you forever
And all I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more
everyday
You saved my heart from
being broken apart
You gave your love
away
I'm thankful everyday
Can't find the words to say
thank you, for the gift
Poems
Who Would You Be Today?
© Joel Mckeown
Could
you imagine a pain so deep down inside
That
it can not be summarized in words you simply can write
A
pain that touches your toes and up to the top of the ceiling
You
can’t eat, you can’t sleep, that is the pain that I am feeling
But
my father raised a boy that can stand on his own
But these different circumstances has got me feeling alone
All the doctor
s and the nurses
say you’re dead and you’re gone
But it still feels
like I could talk to you if I picked up the phone
You can’t fix a
broken window you just replace the pane.
But there is no
pain great enough to replace your face
With my eyes matted
shut from the tears that I slept on
I thank God for the
pictures and your voice on my cell phone.
But please, while
you are awed in the mist of the Lord
Don’t forget all
your friends and time spent on this world.
I will never have a
friend like you ever again.
My heart is a vault
now, I’m scared to let people in.
No matter how many
oceans or rivers I cry
My heart will never
let you go, I’ll never say good bye.
A lot of my hours
are now spent in the place where you lay
As I sit crying,
wondering, who would you be today.
The Importance of A Sister
© Shiv Sharma
A sister is someone who loves you from the heart,
No matter how much you argue you cannot be drawn apart.
She is a joy that cannot be taken away,
Once she enters your life, she is there to stay.
A friend who helps you through difficult times,
Her comforting words are worth much more than dimes.
A partner who fills your life with laughs and smile,
These memories last for miles and miles.
When she is by your side, the world is filled with life,
When she is not around, your days are full of strife.
A sister is a blessing, who fills your heart with love,
She flies with you in life with the beauty of a dove.
A companion to whom you can express your feelings,
She doesn’t let you get bored at family dealings.
Whether you are having your ups or downs,
She always helps you with a smile and never frowns.
With a sister you cannot have a grudge,
She is as sweet as chocolate and as smooth as fudge.
Having a sister is not just a trend,
It is knowing you can always turn to her, your best friend.

Having a sister is not just a trend,
It is knowing you can always turn to her, your best friend.

Imagine
if I was given one moment,
just
a single slice of my past.
I
could hold it close forever,
and
that moment would always last.
I'd put the moment
in a safe,
within myhearts abode.
I could open it
when I wanted,
and
only I would know the code.
I could choose a time
of laughing,
a time of happiness
and fun.
I could choose a time
that tried me,
through everything
I've done.
I sat and thought
about what moment,
would always make me
smile.
One that would always
push me,
to walk that extra
mile.
If I'm feeling sad and
low,
if I'm struggling with
what to do.
I can go and open my
little safe,
and watch my moment
through.
There are moments I
can think of,
that would lift my
spirits everytime.
The moments when you
picked me up,
when the road was hard
to climb.
For me to only pick
one moment,
to cherish, save and
keep,
Is proving really
difficult,
as I've gathered up a
heap!
I've dug deep inside
my heart,
found the safe and
looked inside,
there was room for
lots of moments,
in fact hundreds if I
tried.
I'm building my own little
library,
embedded in my heart,
for all the moments
spent with you,
before you had to
part.
I can open it up
whenever I like,
pick a moment and
watch it through,
My little library acts
as a promise,
I'll never ever forget
you
I Will Be Here
by Nicole George
Whenever
you're sad,
or
feeling blue,
Just
call on me.
I'll
be here for you.
Whenever you're happy,
or
feeling sad,
Just
call on me.
You
are going to be glad that you had.
'Cause I'm gonna be there
with
open arms.
I'm
going to be there
to
bear your arms.
I may be young,
or
tiny like a bug,
but
when you're sad
I
swear to God,
I
give the biggest hugs.
So when you're lonely
or
just plain blue,
Just
think of me,
or
this poem,
And
I'll come to you.
REFLECTION
(DEVELOPMENTAL
READING)
(Finals)
It seems obvious to say that “there is no activity that comes with the
label ‘teaching’ attached to it is the way that some mountains come topped with
snow and some trees bear fruit. Without resorting to empirical observations it
is reasonable to say that whenever a situation is designated “teaching”, the
acts of explaining, describing, stating, defining, concluding, justifying,
weighing and assessing of evidences for against a given problem, questioning, giving
reasons, evaluating, praising, reprimanding, giving pieces of advice to
students, proving, interpreting, amplifying and other related acts are present.
Developmental reading 1 is primarily deals with the sharpening of the
teachers reading proficiency in preparation for the introduction to the nature
of reading process. It is more on how the teacher improves their skills in
order to teach properly the process of reading especially in elementary pupils.
When we say reading it is seemingly a simple word although it is filled with
complexity. According to Lapp and Flood it fall under two categories: reading
as a decoding process and reading for meaning. Reading is one of the macro skills
that are very important in developing the potentials of the individual. It
helps them to reach their goals in life in their own way.
In almost 24 hours of our class session in Educ 8 this midterm much
information and knowledge sink in to my brain. This is one of our major subject
as a education student wherein it enhance our reading skills and gives us
knowledge on the components of the reading process. It also make us competent
teacher in a way that it makes us more aware on how to use properly the words
in a sentence like its grammar, accent, inflection, lexicon pronunciation,
enunciation, syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology and others that is
necessary in reading process. It is also one of my favorite subjects this
semester because it does not only tackle about the scope of its subject but
also it can integrate to other subject like Literature and English. It awakened
my mind the different meanings of reading, its characteristics, developmental
stages , importance and basis in selecting reading materials. I also learned
how the teaching of oral reading effective, how to lessen tension in oral
reading, how to project oneself in proper reading stance and the standards for
classroom oral reading.
I really admire the way our teacher deliver and present her lesson. She
makes us more knowledgeable about the lesson in every discussion. I can say
that she is a good role model as a teacher that does not only based on the
traditional way of teaching rather she make use of the authentic method of
teaching wherein there is an interaction between the students and the teacher.
She also serves as a facilitator and resource provider that recommends and
points the way to useful resources and ask thought-provoking questions and
provide opportunities for us to construct and be accountable for our own
learning. Our
teacher is not a selfish person in a sense that all the information that
she can provide for us us she gave it with whole hearted. She makes us
well-informed about the subject matter and gives more vocabulary words that is
very needed in our profession. At first glance I thought she was so strict but
in the preceding meetings it changed. My perception to her is that she is a
teacher having a wide patience, kind and approachable teacher.
I observe in this subject developmental reading 1 that almost all of us
were studying about the lesson because every time we have a quiz almost all of
us got a high score. Every one of us enjoy this subject because of the rebus
that our teacher introduced in every discussion to prevent us from boredom. It
capture our attention and able us to think deeply what really the meaning of
the symbols. I know in myself that I am not very good in this subject but I do
and try my very best to understand well every lesson that our teacher discussed.
I am hoping that this subject will enhance our talent and skills in
reading process. I am very much thankful that our teacher gave her best in
order for us to learn. I am looking forward for more unique and amazing
techniques in discussing a lesson. I promise that I will study hard in the
preceding meeting in order to acquire knowledge and get a high grades not only
in this subject but also to my other subjects.
Thank you to my teacher for the opportunity to be one your student.
Most of all thank you to God for giving me the wisdom and strength in
everyday life.

Lesson plan is an indispensable tool to a teacher. An engineer would not
dare build a bridge without a plan. An architect makes a plan for every house
he constructs and no homeowner can dispense with the services of an architect
if he wants a good house. Neither can a teacher afford to teach without a
lesson plan.
While creating our lesson plan we was reminded of what it is like to be
a student react. We have used more strategies, methods and techniques how well
our lesson plan effective to them and how we use it in facilitating student
inside the classroom. By observing my classmate in their demo teaching, I
observed that he/she will not follow the time bounded that given to their
activity. So, even if we have not do our demo teaching, we make our lesson plan
an enjoyable and knowledgeable instructional material.
We consider also in our lesson plan the discipline in time and focus to
the main topic. I wanted the presentation to go well of our lesson plan, but
more importantly I wanted to connect it to each student.
..In our topic idioms, we always relay in the concept which idioms is an
expression. Idioms are always something special about any language, they build
up some distinctive feature which differ one language from another. Idioms
reflect certain to cultural traditions and depict the national character. In
order to understand a language mean. It tries to figure out the meaning of an
idiom literally, word by word, you will get befuddled. You have to know its
hidden meaning.
In our lesson plan we aim is to distinguish the main features of the
idioms, how to recognize them within a text, to learn how will make a sentences
using the idioms and specially to classify what kinds of idioms it is.
To generalize, I conclude that one of the hardest parts of making this
lesson plan comes with the shortage of materials, knowledge, information and
time within the success of the whole paper. Part of the reason for its length
is that, making this lesson plan is genuinely base within the helping hands of
each member of the group, cooperation and unity is actually the most and best
contribution that everyone can share. Because of that, through time doesn’t
exactly permit us to make it as its best as long as we have the united
knowledge and skills, everything will be possibly accomplished and everything
will come up to a great accomplishment.

John Cotton Dana
“Demo” a slang word that commonly heard from college students and even
from professionals. From the original word “demonstrate”, a Latin word de- intends
and monstro- to show it mean intend to show. From an education
student like me especially in the third year level it’s inevitable for me to
feel afraid and nervous when we instructed to have a “demo”. Because for us
this is a task that very different and unusual than other requirements we
had. In this task a student teacher must show off the best of what we’ve
learned from the previous and throughout our study under this program.
In demonstration teaching, lesson planning is the integral part. Because
lesson plan serves as a blue print that guide and direct the demonstrator in
better teaching and productive learning. To have a good lesson plan I need to
consider a lot of things in preparing this. Like, time, effort, good decision in
deciding effective motivation and appropriate activities for the children.
Through these experiences I found out some values and attitudes that might be
built within us students that a competent teacher must have. This engages
us to be a goal-oriented, flexible, good organization, a good planner, fair and
positive outlook in life.
As time pass by it been noticeable the changes that occur in the
education system in our country. Likewise the way of living of many people and
especially the technology surrounds us. That is why the environment of every
room now is much different. More interactive class, more effective and fun
activities, a conducive environment for learning and more dedicated
learner. All of these are possible because of the greatness of a competent
teacher. So, it’s very challenge for the aspiring teacher in this generation
these kinds of scenarios inside the classroom as well as the demand of the
government. That a teacher to be is more smart, flexible, skilful and can face
the demands call by the changes.
I can say that I’m so lucky and proud because today certain time of my
study .I was given a lot of opportunities by our professor in this
subjects where my skills and talents that I needed to
developed are being enhance and practice. She molded us into a better
one. She imparted all necessary information and knowledge that can really help
us in our study. To make ourselves well prepare in ahead and in any hardship
that we may confront on. From the experiences that she shared that makes me
inspire. And the most thing I’ve learned is to don’t stop to learn. I‘ve seen
that the every lesson that our professor present to us they study them better
and make sure before they presented to us. It means that even you are already
in the situation of teaching others you still need to study and learn every
day.
“Who dares to
teach must never cease to learn “a saying of a good teacher.

Reading
is one of the most important tools that a person could ever have
throughout the journey of life. Once you love reading, it will also
love you through the rewards it may give you someday. Through your
reading, you can go wherever you want to, you can go back in the
past, you can go the world of fantasies, and you can learn different
things. It can give you broader knowledge about everything. Reading
can also be our weapon to the different battles that we can have in
our everyday living. Through our readings, we can be knowledgeable
enough to face every situation and surpass different dilemmas.
One
of the rewards of reading is to increase or improve our vocabulary.
Increasing our vocabulary is the main objective of our teacher during
our final term. In doing so, she paired us and assigned topic each
pair. This is not just a typical reporting; instead we will present
it as we are doing our demonstration teaching. This is one of her
strategy to prepare us in our profession to be. All of us are excited
about it though it is not the first time that we will act like
teachers in front of a class. The only difference now is that our
students are our classmates; they will just act as elementary pupils.
There
were a lot of preparations to do. First is to look your reference of
your topic. The next one is to make your lesson plan which needs a
lot of your time to think of the best activity that will cater all
the skills to be developed and of course the objectives should be
attained. Most importantly the students will enjoy all throughout the
lesson. It is also a great challenge to make your students
interested in your topic. You have to think of the best motivation
so that they will be motivated along your discussion and will
participate well in the lesson. Once you have motivated them it would
be a great help for you as a teacher because they are eager to learn.
I
really enjoyed doing my lesson plan though it is a very tiring one.
It needs of your creativity and thinking skills for you to construct
or made it. I now it may not be perfect but I am proud that I made it
with all my heart and mind. It is already an achievement for me. I
know that doing it is a training ground for me to master it so that
when I am a teacher already it will be easy for me. Since lesson plan
is one of the important tools in teaching. It serves as the “blue
print” of every teacher.
After
the construction of the lesson plan is to prepare the instructional
materials needed for the presentation your lesson. Instructional
materials are very important because through the use of it your
learners will be interested in your lesson. Instructional materials
are of great help to deliver your topic very well and help your
students to understand the topic very well. It also motivates your
students to participate well in your discussion. Preparing those
needs your creativity and resourcefulness. Those characteristics
should be present as a teacher.
I
have learned many things in this subject, Developmental Reading 1
with our teacher Ms. Julie Amara J. Mostoles well known as Ma’am
Jam. She is very generous in sharing her knowledge to us from the
very start. She always has something to share with the class. That’s
what I really admire to her.
I
have learned many strategies through the demonstration teaching in
our class. Those strategies will useful during our off campus
teaching. I enjoyed every activity that the demonstration teachers
gave or prepared for the class. It seems like we are elementary
pupils again.
I
am thankful that my partner and I are able to do the demonstration
teaching. Though it needs a lot of preparations it was very fun and
unforgettable experience. All our efforts are worth it. We all know
that experience is the best teacher. We can always look back to every
experience we had and learn from it. Through our experience we can
improve our performance next time we have our demonstration teaching.
Thanks
Ma’am Jam for enriching our vocabulary and training us to be good
teachers. We will always be grateful that you were part of our
journey in pursuing our dreams.
